SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The Journal of the Association of Independent Maryland & DC Schools (JAIMS) welcomes contributions in a variety of forms from teachers and administrators at AIMS-member schools that focus directly on teaching and learning in independent schools. AIMS encourages authors to submit pieces that range in length, depending on content, from 500 to 3500 words. Submissions must conform to usage guidelines provided below.

Research:

Basic or classroom research, which is based on an intentional research design with citations, a presentation of the design and method, a discussion of the results, an evaluation of outcomes, suggestions for further research, and a bibliography.

Essay/Article:

An organized presentation of the author’s viewpoint on a subject of interest to the readers of JAIMS. An essay should include the use of citations as appropriate. This category also includes articles of general interest that do not fit into other submission categories.

Book Review:

A description, critical analysis, and an evaluation on the quality, meaning, and significance of a book, not a retelling.

Lesson Plan:

A detailed description of an instructional unit including goals, objectives, methods, resources, assessment, and evaluation.

Letter to the Editor:

Readers are encouraged to respond to articles and themes of previous issues by submitting letters to the editor. Letters are limited to 300 words, and may be shortened to meet space requirements.
